Коли «Боїнг - 747», що летів з Сіднея до Лос - Анджелеса з трьома сотнями пасажирів на борту, знаходився в двох годинах льоту від найближчої суші, в штаб - квартиру авіакомпанії надійшло повідомлення про підкладену в літак бомбу з отруйним нерво - паралітичним газом.Бомба повинна вибухнути через годину, а будь-яка спроба її знешкодити автоматично приведе детонатор в дію. Агенти ФБР і поліція Австралії гарячково розшукують терориста, який встановив бомбу.
А тим часом керівник рятувальної операції по телефону інструктує командира літака, як знешкодити вибуховий пристрій, але з'ясовується, що навіть у разі успіху у пасажирів і членів екіпажу майже не буде шансів на порятунок: в літак закладена ще одна бомба.
