В кожній серії розповідається про одну катастрофу, за винятком спеціальних серій та серій, де розповідається про декілька катастроф. Кожна серія розпочинається з реконструкції подій рейсу і до моменту катастрофи.

Друга частина серії присвячена розслідуванню катастрофи. Для цього використовують покази свідків, людей, що залишилися живі та бортових самописців літака. В кінці серії експерти розповідають, що врешті пішло не так і що можна зробити, щоб не повторити подібну катастрофу в майбутньому.
