Головна героїня фільму, Феріде-ханим, живе із тіткою і її сином Кямраном. Феріде, що подоросліла, несподівано для себе закохується в кузена. Її таємниця стає відома мешканцям села. Правда, разом з цим з'ясовується, що і Кямран теж любить Феріде. Весілля несподівано зриває звістка про швидкоплинний роман Кямрана в Європі. Феріде покидає отчий будинок назавжди. У пошуках роботи вона одержує професію вчительки, тому Феріде знов покидає місто і прямує в далеке село. Феріде-ханум разом з маленькою сиротою Мунісе поневіряється у пошуках роботи.
