За сюжетом, у невеличкому сицилійському містечку вбивають начальника карного розшуку Марінео. На місце вбитого комісара призначають талановитого детектива Коррадо Каттані, досвідченого поліцейського, який переїжджає на Сицилію з дружиною і дочкою.
