На безлюдній площі провінційного містечка відбувається трагедія - під колесами автомобіля, що мчиться на величезній швидкості, гине хлопчик. Поліція шукає водія, але безрезультатно - свідків немає. Невтішний батько, письменник Шарль Теньє, одержимий жаданням помсти, починає власне розслідування. Він хоче не просто знайти злочинця, але і особисто знищити його.Через декілька місяців, витрачених даремно, Шарль абсолютно випадково виходить на слід вбивці.
Сюжет

Бесіда між ними пішла мирно всупереч логіці, хоча спочатку герой Моріса Роне і здивувався і злякався одночасно такому візиту, але вони швидко порозумілися. Від нього чоловік дізнався багато що про свою дружину, чого ніколи і не знав, але як він не намагався зрозуміти ситуацію, справитися з ревнощами і образою він не зміг... раптовий удар статуеткою по голові і... труп на підлозі.
