Перша екранізація роману Брема Стокера "Дракула". Один з визнаних шедеврів німого кіна. Головною особливістю цієї "симфонії жаху" є відтворена режисером атмосфера жаху і безвиході: похмурі склепіння, темні провулки, туман, поїздка Гутера у замок Орлока. Стрічка, стала родоначальницею серії картин про вампірів. У назві недарма використаний музичний термін "симфонія". Фільм побудований за її законами: від пасторалі — через морок і патетику — знову до пасторалі.
