Inspector Zenigata has been removed from the Lupin case which leaves him despondent, and he ends up drinking with Lupin & Jigen. Lupin decides that he and his gang should work with Zenigata to solve his new case, investigating a group of arms dealers known as Shot Shell. Lupin gathers his partners together (Jigen, Goemon, & Fujiko), and with Zenegata they steal a Russian submarine. They kidnap a scientist named Karen Korinsky to help them operate the sub, and also to protect her from Shot Shell. Meanwhile the ICPO assigns a man named Keith Hayden to the Lupin case, and unlike Zenigata he wants Lupin and his group dead. Сюжет
1532 рік. 12-річний Естебан (Esteban), що живе в Барселоні, володіє таємничою силою наказувати сонцю з'являтися, за що його прозвали «дитя сонця». Після смерті свого названого батька Естебан дізнається, що ще коли він був немовлям, його врятували з корабля, що тонув. Також з'ясовується, що незвичайний медальон, який хлопчик носить усе життя, має відношення до Нового Світу: можливо, його створили в Таємничих Містах Золота. Естебан залишає Іспанію, бажаючи відшукати своїх батьків і дізнатися, хто ж він насправді. Під час подорожі він зустрічає Зію (Zia) - дівчинку з племені інків, яку викрали кілька років тому, яка мала такого самого медальона. Пізніше до них приєднується Тао (Tao) – юний галапагоський робінзон, останній нащадок племені Хіва (Heva), які, згідно з переказом, збудували Міста Золота. Йдучи за сяючою зіркою, що зображена на медальонах, діти подорожують Новим Світом у пошуках Міст Золота, вірячи, що цей шлях приведе їх до батьків.
