The characters Pinky and the Brain first appeared in 1993 as a recurring segment on the show Animaniacs. From 1995 to 1998, Pinky and the Brain were spun off into their own show on The WB Television Network, Steven Spielberg Presents Pinky and the Brain, with 65 episodes produced by Steven Spielberg and Warner Bros. Animation. Later, they appeared in the unsuccessful series, Steven Spielberg Presents Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain.
Pinky and Brain are genetically enhanced laboratory mice who reside in a cage in the Acme Labs research facility. Brain is self-centered and scheming; Pinky is good-natured but feebleminded. In each episode, Brain devises a new plan to take over the world, which ultimately ends in failure, usually due to Pinky's idiocy, the impossibility of Brain's plan, Brain's own arrogance, or just circumstances beyond their control. In common with many other Animaniacs shorts, many episodes are in some way a parody of something else, usually a film or novel. The opening song is preceded by the following dialogue:
Pinky: "Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?"

Місце дії - інший світ, планета під назвою Мер. Головний герой - 17-річний Рен, звичайний хлопець, який живе у жінки Джанни, що знайшла його в дитинстві. Під час шторму він рятує старого, який розбився на човні об прибережні скелі. Старий, вмираючи, встигає розповісти юнакові таємницю: Рен - принц Октопона, а старий (Праймус) - його батько, який втік з багаторічного полону у Блота, капітана піратського корабля «Вир» (The Maelstrom). Рен повинен врятувати своє королівство і всю планету Мер від навали Темної води, відшукавши легендарні тринадцять скарбів Рула (другий варіант назви - «Правління»). "Знайди Аломар ... скажи, Праймус втік від короля піратів Блота... Шукай його в вогні й пітьмі, Рен... сину мій!" - Були останні слова старого. Юнак не повірив розповіді старого, прийнявши його за душевнохворого. Рен переказав Джанні розмову зі старим. Але, на його подив, вона підтвердила, що старий не безумець, він насправді є батьком Рена. Жінка віддала Рену зламаний меч-ключ, що належав його батькові, і сказала, що Аламар мешкає на острові Абатства Галдебар. Але не встигає Рен відправитися на пошуки, як сам потрапляє на корабель Блота. Його піймав Нідлер, літаюча мавпа, всупереч своєму бажанню прислуговуючий капітану піратів. Виявляється, Блот бачив, як юнак врятував Праймуса, і тепер хотів дізнатися, чи вижив той. Блот представився перед Реном, не здогадуючись що перед ним - принц Октопона, і запитав, чи знає хлопчисько, де ховається Праймус. Рен був в люті, зрозумівши, хто перед ним. Він сказав, що не буде розмовляти з тюремником свого батька. Блот здогадався, що хлопчисько знає щось про скарби Рула. Після 17 років пошуків і марних спроб вивідати інформацію у старого, він вирішує, що хлопчисько - шанс роздобути скарби. Ледве врятувався з лап Блота за допомогою Нідлера Рен відправився в Абатство Галдебар. Монах, що живе в абатстві, вручив принцу магічний компас, який вказує шлях до скарбів Рула, і показав Рену шлях до Аломара. Після з'ясувалося, що Аламар не людина, а дракон, що охороняє знання, де і як знайти скарби. Він показував Рену магічну запис, але в цей момент нападають пірати Блота. Аламар намагається їх затримати, щоб принц і Нідлер могли втекти, але виявляється переможеним. Рен вирішує повернутися і вступити в бій, але запізно - Аламар загинув у бою. Рену і Нідлеру залишилося тільки утікати. Принц Рен думає, як знайти скарби. Він вирішує розіграти сценку, щоб знайти команду, яка з ним шукатиме скарби. У таверні острова Джанго-Таун він знаходить неординарну, але віддану команду: мавп-птицю Нідлера, колишню офіціантку, а нині чарівницю Тулу і пірата Аяза.
