В розпал громадянської війни, комісар Вавілова завагітніла, батько майбутньої дитини загинув в бою, і їй довелося народжувати. Їй виділили кімнатку в будиночку, де тулилася сім'я євреїв. Ці бідні люди, що натерпілися за війну горя, були настільки багаті серцем, людяністю і добротою, що прийняли комісара як рідну людину.
