Письменник Пол (Антоніо Бандерас) давно не отримував хороших гонорарів за свої книги. Пише він все менше, намагаючись заглушити свою творчу кризу алкоголем. Одного разу в придорожньому кафе він стає учасником бійки. Випадковий відвідувач Джек (Джонатан Різ-Майерс) втручається і тим самим рятує Пола. Дізнавшись, що Джеку ніде переночувати, Пол із вдячності пропонує зупинитися у нього вдома.
