Японський журналіст знаходить стару камеру, яка може розкрити одну з найбільших таємниць альпінізму — чи підкорив Еверест легендарний мандрівник ще у 1924 році. У пошуках істини він вирушає в небезпечну подорож і зустрічає загадкового альпініста, одержимого горами. Разом вони стикаються з фізичними та моральними випробуваннями, де кожен крок може стати фатальним. Батько загиблого, старий Тінле, не вірить у нещасний випадок і підозрює у вбивстві іншого погонича, Карму, який буцімто хотів стати ватажком. Жодна людина в селі не підтримує цю версію, але впертий дідуган ніяк не може вгамуватися. Не зважаючи на солідний вік, Тінле вирішує сам повести яків з вантажем солі через гори. Але Карма не менш впертий і веде свою власну валку за участі молодшого покоління селян.Сюжет
