На військовому полігоні в Африці було знайдено невідомі раніше людям безсмертні форми життя. Їх вивчають, відрізаючи їм кінцівки, завдаючи сильного болю, вирізаючи та продаючи органи, вважаючи, що все це служить на благо людства. Люди бояться Нелюдів, оскільки вони за зовнішністю нічим не відрізняються від людей і знаходяться серед них. Доки людина не помре, вона не може на сто відсотків бути впевненою, що вона сама не Нелюд. Головний герой – Кей Наґано, який дізнається про свої здібності випадково. Перед початком літніх канікул Кея збиває автівка, але за кілька секунд він «оживає». Щоб не бути спійманим, Кею доводиться тікати з міста. Єдина людина, яка може йому допомогти, навіть дізнавшись про те, що він Нелюд – його найкращий друг Кайто.
