The magician appears upon the stage with his assistant. Taking a handkerchief from his pocket, he causes an empty jar to suddenly appear under it. He places the empty jar upon the table and seizing his assistant by one arm, begins pumping, when lo! a stream of water emits from the mouth of the assistant and fills the dish. One by one he takes six fishes from the mouth of his assistant and places them in the dish. The assistant is then commanded to hold the jar high above his head, and immediately it begins smoking, and a terrific explosion takes place, which, when the smoke clears away, leaves a flag in its place. The flag is unfolded, when there appears from behind it a huge lobster which suddenly turns into a man. The flag is placed over him, and when it is removed, there are two small children in his place, one seated upon the back of the other. These children are mysteriously turned into different objects until the jar of water finally re-appears with the fish in it. Now the assistant upon examining the jar, is kicked by the magician and sent flying from the stage. The magician then places the flag about himself and mysteriously disappears in the air, ending the scene.

Desperate from his utter helplessness to ameliorate his dying wife's suffering, owing to extreme destitution, he is in a frenzy of grief, when a raven is seen to perch on a bust of Pallas above the door of their cold, cheerless apartment. An inspiration! He sets to work, and that masterpiece. "The Raven," is the fruit. During his work he has divested himself of his coat, putting it over his wife to protect her from the cold. The poem finished, he rushes coatless and hatless to the publisher, where he meets with scant attention. One editor, however, thinks the work possesses some merit and offers ten dollars for it. Ten dollars for the greatest jewel in the diadem of fame - think of it! Poe thinks of the comforts, meager though they needs must be, for his poor wife and accepts the offer. Hastening to the store, he procures food, a heavy comfortable for the cot, and medicine, and with much lighter heart returns home. Spreading the quilt tenderly over Virginia, he takes her hand and gazes fondly into her sightless eyes, but the cold, unresponsive hand tells him the awful truth. "My God, she is dead!" and he falls prostrate across the cot.

Immediately after a fire breaks out, and while the people try to attack their fire apparatus, Gulliver seizes a seltzer bottle and extinguishes the blaze with its contents. He leaves the island at last, and after wandering about for some months he is again shipwrecked, but this time is thrown among the giants, who look upon him, a natural-sized man, as a novelty. They pick him up like a top, and one amuses himself by blowing a cloud of smoke in Gulliver's face, the while smoking a huge clay pipe. The Princess of the giants, learning of the new arrival, dismisses her followers and interviews the little man, who being too far away, climbs a ladder in order to reach the Princess, but she admonishes him for his presumption and in his confusion he falls to the ground. Here is a subject that will enthuse your audience, not alone the children, but the grown folks as well. It is a story complete in itself and takes one back to ancient times, when such doings were looked upon as natural. It is a wonderful picture, wonderfully produced.

He shows them the door and then declines an invitation from his nephew and the latter's Christmas wishes, because the spirit of Christmas is not with him. After finishing his Christmas Eve's work by scolding his poor humble clerk, Bob Cratchit, he hies him home. At the door we see the knocker change visibly before his eyes to the face of his former partner, Marley, long since dead, and during the night he is visited by Marley who introduces him anew to the long forgotten Spirit of Christmas. The Spirit shows him in successive visions his happy childhood days when he was young and free, the breaking of his engagement to the woman who later marries happily, and then shifting to the present Christmas, shows him Bob Cratchit's humble family enjoying their Christmas dinner, which consists of the bare necessities of life. He sees his nephew disappointed by being refused the hand of the one girl he loves, because of his poverty, poverty which Scrooge could help. And then, peering forward into the future, the Spirit shows him the picture of himself dying in his lonely room without the care or love of anyone. He reads his own tombstone which tells a pitiful story, that he lived and died without a friend. This vision proves too much for Scrooge's hardness. He repents of his former mode of life and staggering back, drops unconscious upon his bed. When he awakens he is a changed man, with a firm determination to live a life of love for his friends instead of for his funds. He accordingly calls on his nephew (on the way meeting the charity workers and contributing to their fund for the poor), and when he finds the nephew with his little fiancée, he gives him a paper telling him that as his partner he will be amply able to marry the girl of his choice. And then he takes the young people with him and loading themselves with good things, they repair to Bob Cratchit's humble home. Of course Cratchit thinks that his employer is crazy when he sees him smile upon him and sees the good things which are brought; but he is not long in being convinced, and we feel sure that Cratchit and his little lame child, "Tiny Tim," will be well cared for in the future.

The Spirit shows him in successive visions his happy childhood days when he was young and free, the breaking of his engagement to the woman who later marries happily, and then shifting to the present Christmas, shows him Bob Cratchit's humble family enjoying their Christmas dinner, which consists of the bare necessities of life. He sees his nephew disappointed by being refused the hand of the one girl he loves, because of his poverty, poverty which Scrooge could help. And then, peering forward into the future, the Spirit shows him the picture of himself dying in his lonely room without the care or love of anyone. He reads his own tombstone which tells a pitiful story, that he lived and died without a friend. This vision proves too much for Scrooge's hardness. He repents of his former mode of life and staggering back, drops unconscious upon his bed. When he awakens he is a changed man, with a firm determination to live a life of love for his friends instead of for his funds. He accordingly calls on his nephew (on the way meeting the charity workers and contributing to their fund for the poor), and when he finds the nephew with his little fiancée, he gives him a paper telling him that as his partner he will be amply able to marry the girl of his choice. And then he takes the young people with him and loading themselves with good things, they repair to Bob Cratchit's humble home. Of course Cratchit thinks that his employer is crazy when he sees him smile upon him and sees the good things which are brought; but he is not long in being convinced, and we feel sure that Cratchit and his little lame child, "Tiny Tim," will be well cared for in the future.
