The stories of Baron Münchhausen were enriched by Karel Zeman with a character of a modern astronaut Tommy and compare two different worlds - the world of a rococo cavalier whose fantasy does not have any limits and the world of a young man of the present time. The astronaut (Rudolf JelÃnek) finds on the moon the famous dreamer Baron Münchhausen (Milos Kopecký), who takes him back to earth and a variety of exaggerated adventures. Amusing variation on the old stories, using live action against deliberately artificial backgrounds.

Також важливий і факт наявності у творі відомих міцних фраз, які надають колорит і жвавість сприйняття картини. У даній версії відсутність цензури компенсує ці недоліки, можливо нагадуючи глядачам часи, коли читався твір саме в українському перекладі Степана Масляка (Київ 1970).

Francin (Jirà Schmitzer), manager of a small-town brewery, has a charming wife whose abundant blonde locks are an adornment to the town. Maryska (Magda Vásáryová) looks ethereal but loves meat and beer, while Francin is an ascetic. The strict members of the brewery board of directors come to audit the accounts, but are diverted from concentrating on Francin's detailed reports by Maryska, who has organized a pig-killing feast and is ably assisting the butcher. When she invites the old curmudgeons on the board to enjoy the fresh pork, they are too happy to agree. Francin doesn't know whether he is going to get a permanent contract. To make things worse his brother Pepin (JaromÃr HanzlÃk) - eccentric, noisy and garrulous - turns up on an indefinite visit.

Карл Копфрінгл, працівник крематорію в невеликому чеському містечку, виконує свою роботу з відданістю: перед тим, як кремувати тіло, він завжди гарно його оформлює. Дружина, син і донька Копфрінгла теж не можуть поскаржитися на брак уваги. Незабаром Чехія потрапляє до рук нацистів. Крематор пам'ятає, що в його жилах тече німецька кров, і відчуває можливості для просування. На жаль, його дружина наполовину єврейка, а син дружить з євреями.
