Цей день Г'юґо запам'ятала на все життя. З самого ранку у Лос-Анджелесі стояла дика спека. Населення повільно сходило з розуму. Багато покладали надії тільки на Г'юґо — адже саме вона взяла на себе обов'язок піклуватися про басейни багатьох мешканців голлівудського раю. Ось і розпочався для Г'юґо довгий, довгий, робочий день. Божевільний батько, мати, схиблена на тоталізаторі. Голландський режисер, напередодні відкрив вогонь прямо на знімальному майданчику, італійський мафіозі. Усі ці люди — у чомусь смішні, у чомусь нещасні — зустрілися сьогодні на шляху Г'юґо і назавжди змінили її життя.
