Волтер Васік (ім’я при народженні: Володимир Йосипович Васік) народився 1 травня 1930 року в місті Самбір під Львовом, Україна. Walter Wasik produced a series of short documentary films through Wasik Films in Oshawa, Ontario, that documented Ukrainian Canadian community life, religious and cultural events, and historical tragedies in Ukraine. These works, primarily in 16mm color format, served as records of local activities and commemorations within the diaspora.[5]
His early documentaries included Ukrainian Home "Dnipro" (1954), a 12-minute film on the community center of that name, St. George in Oshawa (1955), a 30-minute piece likely centered on the local St. George Ukrainian church or related event, and Ukrainians in Oshawa (circa 1960), a 30-minute overview of the Ukrainian population in the city.[5] In 1963, Wasik released Famine in Ukraine, a 20-minute color documentary addressing the forced starvation of millions of Ukrainian peasants during the 1930s under Soviet rule.[5]
In 1976, Wasik produced two additional short documentaries: Lesia, a 22-minute film depicting the unveiling of the Lesia Ukrainka monument in Toronto (sculpted by M. Chereshnovsky), and Patriarch in Oshawa, a 22-minute record of Cardinal Iosyf Slipyj's visit to Oshawa.[5] Wasik is credited as producer on these later works, consistent with his role in earlier productions through Wasik Films.[5]
