Young Vercingetorix came of age in 60 B.C., as soldiers of the Roman Empire ran roughshod over Gaul and his father was captured and executed by Romans. A wise and philosophical druid, Guttuart, tells the angry Vercingetorix that he should seek justice by winning freedom for Gaul from the Romans. As an adult, Vercingetorix becomes a brave and insightful warrior, and at first joins forces with the charismatic Julius Caesar. But in time Vercingetorix is betrayed by the great leader, and soon he raises an army of his own to defeat Caesar and bring Guttuart's prophesy to life.

Фільм описує події кінця 1940-х років, коли на хвилі післявоєнного патріотизму багато російських емігрантів репатріювалися до СРСР. Росіянин — Олексій Головін з дружиною француженкою Марі, приїхавши в СРСР, на власні очі зіткнулися з жахливими реаліями сталінського тоталітаризму. Майже всіх прибулих з ними на пароплаві відправили в табори або розстріляли.З долями головних героїв переплетені і життя сусідів по комунальній квартирі: Ольги — інформаторки НКВС, Анастасії Олександрівни, вимушеної майже забути про своє шляхетне походження і її онука Саша, талановитого спортсмена-плавця.
Основна дія фільму розгортається в післявоєнному Києві.
Сюжет
Фільм описує події кінця 1940-х років, коли на хвилі післявоєнного патріотизму багато російських емігрантів репатріювалися до СРСР. They are pleased with their rustic conditions, until a Russian truck driver, Serguei, gets stuck with his truck nearby. The cultural gap between Gombo and Serguie seems invincible. But maybe they can learn a few things from each other?

Maria learns that her aunt Oriana has died and willed her a crumbling and remote Venezuelan hacienda where Maria spent a short time as a girl just entering puberty. Maria goes to the hacienda to prepare the place for sale; while going through her aunt's papers, she recalls her visit years' before. In flashbacks, we see the young Maria trying to sort out why Oriana never leaves the hacienda, what secret may be in Oriana's past, and who the mysterious Sergio was. The young Maria, as she learns things, imagines her aunt's youth, cruel father, and first love. After these reveries within reveries, Maria, now a grown woman, makes one more discovery.
