Притулки Магдалини в Ірландії втримувалися сестрами милосердя під заступництвом католицької церкви. Потрапляючи сюди з родин або сирітських притулків, молоді дівчата виявлялися в умовах, близьких тюремному ув'язненню. I quattro figli della signora Flynn si riuniscono a Glasgow, nella casa materna, in occasione dei funerali della madre, morta di recente.
