Серіал був задуманий, як освітня програма для дітей та підлітків, що висвітлював історичних постатей і важливі події минулого, з використанням коцепції пріквел до фільмів як принаду. Більшість епізодів мають особливість стандартної формули від старшого (93-річного) Індіани Джонса (роль якого грав Джордж Холл) до теперішніх днів (1993) Нью-Йорк його зустрічають люди, які спонукають його згадати та розповісти про свої минулі пригоди. Розповідаючи ці історії він буде уявляти себе малим хлопцем (10 років, якого грав Корі Керріер), чи як підлітка (16 - 21 років, якого грав Шон Патрік Фленері). У одному епізоді, 50-річний Інді (якого грав Гаррісон Форд) поринає у минуле. Спочатку план полягав для серій у чергуванні пригод Інді, коли той був дитиною (Корі Керріер) і тінейджером (Шон Патрік Фленері), але врешті-решт особливістю епізодів стала версія Фланері, де домінувало послідовне сполучення, а не чергування. У кінці серій старший Джонс дізнається, що має дочку, внуків і правнуків. Нічого не згадується про сина, хоч він був показаний у фільмі Індіана Джонс і королівство кришталевого черепа.
