Сюжет

Після довгої розлуки до Стели приїжджає сестра Бланш Дюбуа — тонка невротична натура з нальотом аристократизму, ще досі приваблива своєю в'янучою красою. Її одразу ж шокує галаслива обстановка перенаселеного передмістя Нового Орлеану, де мешкає сестра зі своїм чоловіком Стенлі Ковальські — брутальним і прямолінійним пролетарем. Через деякий час між Бланш та Стенлі розгортається запеклий конфлікт... Стрічку створено на основі однойменної п'єси Теннессі Вільямса, що принесла її авторові Пулітцерівську премію.

The Winfield family moves into a new house in a small town in Indiana. Tomboy Marjorie Winfield begins a romance with William Sherman who lives across the street. Marjorie has to learn how to dance and act like a proper young lady. Unfortunately William Sherman has unconventional ideas for the time (setting is during W.W.I, but the war does not play a major part for most of the movie). His ideas include not believing in marriage or money, which causes friction with Marjorie's father, who is the local bank vice president.

Song-and-dance man Bert Kalmar can't continue his stage career after an injury for a while, so he has to earn his money as a lyricist. Perchance he meets composer Harry Ruby and their first song is a hit. Ruby gets Kalmar to marry is former partner Jessie Brown, and Kalmar and Jessie prevent Ruby from getting married to the wrong girls. But due to the fact that Ruby has caused a backer's withdrawal for a Kalmar play, they end their relation.
