Жан Маре – французький актор.
Жан Віллен-Маре народився 1913 року в Шербурі на півночі Франції. У 4 роки марив кінематографом, розігруючи з солдатиками сюжети, навіяні пригодницькими картинами. Юнаком Жан проходив прослуховування, тричі безуспішно намагався вступити на акторське відділення Консерваторії. Нарешті був прийнятий на курси Ш. Дюллена і з’явився на екрані у масовці. Виконавець почав зніматися в 1930-і роки. Здобув популярність у роки війни, коли знявся у стрічці Крістіан-Жака «Кармен» ... (1945).
Справжнім учителем Маре, що сформував його акторську особистість і художній смак, став поет, драматург і режисер Жан Кокто, з яким актор познайомився 1937 року. Їхня дружба тривала багато років. Фільми та вистави, поставлені Кокто для Маре, увійшли до скарбниці французької культури і світового кіна. Малодосвідчений, але пластично виразний актор став слухняним матеріалом у руках метра, знахідкою для драматурга і режисера. У своїх роботах того періоду Маре втілив образ ідеального чоловіка, завойовника жіночих сердець. Він став «актором Кокто», граючи в його театральних виставах («Жахливі батьки»), а також знімався в його головних фільмах – «Орфей» (1949) і «Заповіт Орфея» (1959).
1964 року Жан Маре знявся у суперпопулярній серії фільмів про Фантомаса. Це були одні з найбільш касових французьких фільмів, де актор знявся разом з незабутнім Луї де Фінесом. Наприкінці 1960-х виконавець потрапив у важку автомобільну катастрофу і надовго залишив екран. У 1970-х роках практично не знімався. У 1985 році Маре очолював журі 35-го Берлінського міжнародного кінофестивалю. Лише в 1996 році актор з’явився у знаковій ролі підстаркуватого художника у стрічці Бернардо Бертолуччі «Украдена краса». За час своєї акторської кар’єри Жан Маре знявся у 107-ми фільмах. Він зіграв безліч ролей у костюмно-історичних стрічках, комедійних фільмах і навіть казках.
Крім великого артистичного таланту, Жан Маре мав здібності і до художньої скульптури, живопису та поезії. Пабло Пікассо, побачивши деякі ранні скульптурні роботи актора, здивувався, як людина з таким талантом скульптора «витрачає свій час на якісь зйомки в кіно і роботу в театрі». У 1989 році у Парижі в районі Монмартр був встановлений пам’ятник письменнику Марселю Еме роботи Жана Маре. Скульптура більше відома під назвою «Людина, яка проходить крізь стіну».
Також Жан Маре написав книги «Уся правда про мене» (1957), «Історія мого життя» (1975), «Оповідання» (1978) та ін.
З роками Жан Маре все менше знімався в кіно, перебрався в околиці Канн, до останніх днів залишаючись творчо активним художником. Він ніколи не скаржився на старість і самотність – називав себе «старим, який розважається». Казав, з посмішкою і світлом в очах, що завжди живе сьогоднішнім днем – і в цьому один з його рецептів щастя.

In Victorian London, the botanist Irwin Molyneux and his wife Margaret Molyneux are bankrupted but still keeping the appearance due to the successful crime novels written by Irwin under the pseudonym of Felix Chapel. Their cook has just left the family, when Irwin's snoopy and hypocrite cousin Archibald Soper that is in campaign against the police stories of Felix Chapel invites himself to have dinner in Irwin's house. Margaret decides to keep the farce of their social position secretly cooking the dinner, while the clumsy Irwin justifies her absence telling the bishop Soper that she had just traveled to the country to meet some friends. However Soper suspects of Irwin and calls the Scotland Yard, assuming that his cousin had poisoned his wife. Irwin and Margaret decide to hide the truth to avoid an exposition of their financial situation, moving to a low-budget hotel in the Chinese neighborhood, getting into trouble.
