У фортеці на далекому острові десь у Середземному морі перебуває безіменний полонений. Під страхом смертної страти ніхто не сміє бачити в'язня без маски, що приховує його обличчя. А на іншому кінці воюючої Европи, у Парижі, сильна лихоманка ставить під загрозу життя Людовіка XIV, молодого короля Франції. На межі розриву підписання мирного договору з Еспанією, головною умовою якого повинен стати союз Людовика XIV і Інфанта Еспанського. Не буде короля – не буде вигідного весілля і довгожданого миру.

Сюжет

Сюжет
Відень, 1906 рік. Молодий і привабливий лейтенант Франц Лобгайнер перебуває у таємних та виснажливих стосунках з заміжньою баронесою Леною Еґґерсдорф. Бажаючи покінчити з цими заплутаними стосунками, Франц випадково знайомиться з Крістіною — ніжною і щирою донькою оперного музиканта. Між молодими людьми швидко спалахує справжнє, чисте кохання, і лейтенант вирішує остаточно розірвати минулі пута, щоб пов'язати життя з коханою. Проте минуле наздоганяє його.Сюжет
