When drug store owner Geelman's watch is missing, he accused incorrigible rascal Pietje Bell. The boy is thrown in jail without trial, but quickly escapes and is proved innocent. During his short prison stay he met gang mate Willem Sproet's dad Jan Lampe, who wants to resume contact, and crime lord Stark, who buys himself a luxury regime in jail and keeps organizing crime from within. Pietje mobilizes his 'Robin Hood'-type gang of the Black Hand. Pietje also causes havoc at a party to 'punish' his sister Martha's lover, newspaper owner Paul Velinga, who means well and gets abducted to be extorted in jail solitary by Stark. That opens the way for Geelman's son Joost, which Pietje and his gang must prevent. Stark meanwhile plans to have a Russian czarist crown stolen from a visiting exposition, but Pietje is tipped off.

Three women, all strangers to each other, meet in a dress boutique. One of the three is approached by the male proprietor as she is shoplifting a garment. When he approaches her the other two join her in beating the man to death. Other female shoppers ignore the whole situation and leave when the crime is complete. The court appoints a female psychriatrist to examine the women; contrary to public opinion the psychiatrist finds they are not insane but implies the rage expressed by the crime is a result of the male dominated society. An interesting study of extreme behavior. The prisoner's cells were a revelation.

Що починається як невибагливий молодіжний сентиментальний фільм «Молодці» стає до кінця дії гіркою драмою обманутих надій і ілюзій, що лопнули, тому що хлопці й дівчиська із простого голландського містечка прилучаються до тих же порокам і роблять ті ж помилки, які, видно, судилося робити молоді в усі століття, учачись на власному досвіді.
