Сюжет
Капітан у відставці Фаусто Консоло, який залишився сліпим і покаліченим на ліву руку через випадково підірвану гранату, їде в Неаполь до свого товариша Вінченцо, лейтенанта у відставці, який також трагічно втратив зір. Супроводжувати Фаусто у цій подорожі доручено 18-річному новобранцю Джованні Бертацці...Екранізація роману Джованні Арпіно «Темрява і мед» (1969). Представлений у конкурсі на Каннському кінофестивалі 1975 року, фільм приніс Вітторіо Ґассману нагороду за найкращу чоловічу роль. На церемонії «Оскар» 1976 року стрічка отримала дві номінації: за найкращий іноземний фільм та найкращий адаптований сценарій.
У 1992 р. за мотивами цього фільму Мартін Брест зняв стрічку під такою ж назвою «Scent of a Woman» з Аль Пачіно у головній ролі.

In particular, it is the film adaptation of that novel starring frà Pepin, a young native of Florence, which was discovered and arrested for his relationship with Mona Fawaz, a married woman.
