У долину приїжджає таємничий чоловік із Дикого Заходу, який представляється Шейном. Він поселяється на фермі гомстедера Джо Старрета. Хоча він не розповідає нічого про своє минуле, мешканці долини здогадуються, що він був стрільцем (ганфайтером).
