La llegada de un equipo cinematogrÃ¡fico a un pequeÃ±o pueblo causa un gran revuelo. Vienen a rodar escenas de la pelÃcula "La hija de Juan SimÃ³n". Una de las muchachas del pueblo, Carmela, rompe el corazÃ³n de su pretendiente Antonio al enamorarse de Alfonso GuzmÃ¡n, el actor principal, con el que tiene un idilio que finaliza cuando el equipo termina el rodaje de las escenas y se marcha de vuelta a Madrid. Carmela estÃ¡ enamorada de Alfonso, asÃ que decide dejar a su padre RamÃ³n y a su tÃa Sebastiana y acudir a la gran ciudad para estar con su amado. Pero Alfonso, que en realidad es un sinvergÃ¼enza, no estÃ¡ enamorado de Carmela. Le cede un apartamento para que ella se establezca, donde se encuentran frecuentemente. La mantiene durante algÃºn tiempo, y luego le consigue pequeÃ±os papeles en sus pelÃculas. Cierto dÃa ella envÃa una carta a su padre diciÃ©ndole que se ha casado, carta a la que acompaÃ±a una falsa fotografÃa de boda realizada para uno de los rodajes. Pasa el tiempo y Alfonso se cansa de ella, y entonces le confiesa que no tiene intenciÃ³n de casarse con ella. Ella, destrozada, le abandona, y termina dedicÃ¡ndose a la prostituciÃ³n...

During archaeological excavations in the crypt of Santo Tomé (Toledo, Spain), a sarcophagus is discovered containing the incorrupt body of Captain Contreras, a man in a state of suspended animation since 1650, due to a potion someone forced him to ingest to prevent further illness. The audacious journalist Cornejo intends to exploit this discovery, with the help of Paca Revilla, a careless woman, and an unscrupulous doctor. The controversy surrounding the authenticity of Contreras's body reaches the ears of several American universities, which purchase the Captain's remains.
