The film begins when Vasudeva Shenoy (Anoop Menon), a police constable by profession, proposes to his colleague Lakshmi (Lena) with a strong objection from Vasudeva Shenoy's mother. In the meantime Kunjunni Menon (Santhosh Keezhattoor), a thief, who disguised as a police inspector, falls in love with Lakshmi. Kunjunni Menon then convinces Lakshmi and her family to agree to marriage. Lakshmi later comes to know that her husband had cheated her. Lakshmi and Kunjunni however pretend to have an amicable marriage as she gives birth to Adithyan (Dulquer Salmaan). On the same day Vikraman (Unni Mukundan) was also born to Vasudeva Shenoy and his new wife. Laksmi further gives birth to two daughters. Kunjunni gets caught by Shenoy after committing a theft and was dragged to the jeep in front of his son (Adityan). Adithyan becomes very depressed and refuses to accept his father. Kunjunni unable to face his son, commits suicide. Adityan (Dulquer Salmaan), Vikraman (Unni Mukundan) and Deepika Pai(Namitha Pramod) befriend each other as schoolmates and the story proceeds to their adulthood. Faced with many hardships, Adithyan transforms into an intelligent man. He falls in love with Deepika and she reciprocates his feelings. In a string of events, Adithyan and Vikraman are in a competition for the SI (police) selections. Shenoy frames Adithyan with a crime he didn't commit, forcing Adithyan out of the SI selections. Adithyan runs away and returns many years later. With the help of Lokesh IAS (Nivin Pauly), Adithyan becomes an IPS officer and the new Assistant Commissioner of Police of Kochi, Kerala. Vikraman takes charge as an SI and Deepika unites with Adithyan. The film ends with Adithyan and his family standing up against the people that once teased him as the "thief's son".

Thanks to a script stolen from assistant director Udayabhanu, Rajappan Thengummoodu becomes superstar Saroj Kumar overnight. Udayan is left heart-broken but fate comes in the form of Babykuttan who wants to produce a movie with Udayan in the director's seat. And when Superstar Saroj Kumar starts working in the film, things looked to be in the right track. But when the project nears completion, Saroj walks out from the project due to an ego clash with Udayan. They are forced to obey several bizarre instructions one after the other. First Venky asks them to withdraw the entire balance from their bank account in cash. Soon after Venky sets fire to the currency notes in a suitcase and throws the whole thing into a river along with their wallets. Venky then proceeds to ask for more money, so Ravi sells his wrist watch worth one hundred thousand rupees, for a sum of just Rs 6000. As the day progresses both Ravi and Parvathy are made to drive around and perform several tasks, including leaking Ravi's firm's top secret business plans to their rival group, forcing Ravi to bargain with a sex worker, etc. Venky also traps them in a sleazy lodge where he begins to remove Parvathy's garments but stops short of proceeding further. At last, towards the late hours of the night, they reach Ravi's boss's house. Ravi is asked to shoot his boss if he wants to have his daughter returned alive. Ravi enters the house and to his surprise finds his colleague Devi there. Part of the drama unveils to the audience now: it is Devi's house, Venky is her husband, and Ravi and Devi have been having an extramarital affair. In the subsequent few minutes, we realise that all this was a drama plotted and enacted by Venky and Parvathy, both deeply hurt by their partners' deceit, in order to teach their spouses about the pain they themselves went through. The last shot of the movie has Ravi and Parvathy a year later at a hospital for the infirm. They see a paralyzed Devi, a victim of a suicide attempt, being cared for by an affectionate Venky.
