Many passengers on the Shanghai Express are more concerned that the notorious Shanghai Lil is on board than the fact that a civil war is going on that may make the trip take more than three days. The British Army doctor, Donald Harvey, knew Lil before she became a famous "coaster." A fellow passenger defines a coaster as "a woman who lives by her wits along the China coast." When Chinese guerillas stop the train, Dr. Harvey is selected as the hostage. Lil saves him, but can she make him believe that she really hasn't changed from the woman he loved five years before?

Джімі Гіґінс – робітник заводу, де виготовляють зброю для царської Росії та кайзеровської Німеччини За часів першої світової війни Джімі виступає на стихійному мітингу проти війни. Його заарештовують. Після визволення з-під арешту він стає безробітним. Звістку про революцію в Росії Джімі зустрічає з радістю, записується волонтером в американський експедиційний корпус, вважаючи, що тепер він зі зброєю в руках буде битися проти німців – ворогів російської революції.Але, опинившись у Росії, Джімі через деякий час починає розуміти, що експедиційний корпус волонтерів з Америки воює не проти німців, а проти молодої соціалістичної Росії. Джімі без вагань стає на шлях революційної боротьби, веде пропаганду серед американських солдатів, розповсюджує серед них більшовицькі прокламації. Схоплений американською військовою поліцією, Джімі Гіґінс не видає друзів. Його засуджують до двадцяти років неволі у військовій в’язниці.

In the year 1756, Fort William Henry on Lake George is under siege by the French and Hurons under General Montcalm. Alice and Cora Munro, young daughters of the British Commander, Colonel Munro, set out from Albany to join their father at the fort. They are accompanied by Major Duncan Heyward, who has loved Alice for a long time, and by a renegade Huron named Magua. He leads them astray with the view of betraying them into the hands of a wandering party of Hurons, but his plans are foiled by Hawkeye, a Colonial scout, when he and his comrades, Chingachgook and his son Uncas, rescue the party and conduct them safely to the fort. Shortly after wards, Munro surrenders on honorable terms to Montcalm and is permitted to march out of the fort under arms and colors. He is then mortally wounded by Magua during a massacre by the Indians as the fort is being evacuated. Cora and Alice are carried off by Magua and Heyward, aided by Hawkeye, Chingachgook and Uncas, sets out in search of them.
