Фільм розповідає про події другої битви при Ель-Аламейн, вирішальної битви африканського театру військових дій Другої світової війни. Осінь 1942 року. Юний студент-доброволець Серра прибуває в розташування своєї частини на самій південній ділянці фронту, на краю западини Каттара.
