30-річний Дайкічі Кавачі вів собі холостяцький спосіб життя, нікого не чіпав і кохався в роботі. Аж раптом, одного дня, йому прийшло повідомлення про смерть його діда. Діватися було нікуди, адже все-таки родич, і Дайкічі поїхав на похорон. Коли він туди приїхав, його чекав маленький сюрприз. Виявляється, його дід, незважаючи на похилий вік, був хлопець хоч куди. На схилі літ він завів собі позашлюбну доньку 6 років. Дізнавшись про смерть стариганя, мати дівчинка кинула її на родичів по батьковій лінії. Але їм дівчинка також не була потрібна. Не довго думаючи, вони вирішили віддати її в притулок. Коли Дайкічі про це дізнався, він дуже розізлився.
