Lars was born in Bremen, Germany. After graduating from high school, he moved to the US, where he got his BA in Modern Culture and Media, and Architectural History from Brown University in Providence, RI. He then went to Northwestern University in Chicago to study Film and got his MFA in 2002.
After seven years in the US, Lars moved back to Germany, where he works as a freelance scriptwriter in Berlin.
In 2008 and 2013, Lars participated in the Ekran programme at the Wajda School in Warsaw.

Дев’ятирічний Роман їде до своєї матері Оксани, яка виїхала на нелегальні заробітки до Німеччини. Там вона живе з Ґертом, 62-річним вдівцем, що страждає на діабет. Ґерт намагається подружитися з хлопчиком, але Романа насамперед цікавить увага матері. Раптом Оксані стає погано й Роман залишається наодинці зі своїм суперником. Виявляється, що з Ґертом на диво цікаво гратися, аж доки той не помирає від інсульту. Відтак Роман із трупом опиняється в пастці в справжній глушині...
