Військовий супутник після удару мікрометеоритів сходить з орбіти і падає біля маленького містечка Підмонт в Арізоні. Допитливий мешканець розкриває супутник, і невідомий вірус виривається на свободу. Всі жителі містечка вмирають або вчиняють самогубства, вижили лише старий і немовля. Військові збирають групу найкращих вчених-добровольців, які повинні дослідити небезпечний збудник і як з ним боротися.За мотивами роману Майкла Крайтона "Штам Андромеда".
