Невдалий експеримент із прискоренням часток в одній з квантових лабораторій в Сент-Луїсі, штат Міссурі, призводить до утворення Чорної діри на Землі і смерті провідного вченого Вільяма Хаузера. Колега і давня любов Еріка Брайса, Шеннон Мур звертається до фізика за допомогою. Брайс і Шеннон приступають до роботи, намагаючись знайти в записах Хаузера підказку: як знищити Чорну діру. Але вони ще не знають, що виникнення Чорної діри призвело до створення ще однієї істоти, яка вийшла за межі лабораторії і розгулює по вулицях Сент-Луїса, поглинаючи енергію з електричної мережі.
