Колишній гіпі Джефф Лебовські не кличе себе Лебовські. Він називає себе Чувак. Але негідники, які увірвалися до нього додому, вмочують Чувака головою в унітаз, випорожнюються на килим, вимагають якісь гроші і називають його Лебовські. З'ясовується, що Чувака Лебовські переплутали з іншим Лебовські, мільйонером, у якого викрали дружину і тепер вимагають викуп. Чувак вирушає до мільйонера, щоб розібратися щодо відшкодування за сплюндрований килим. Замість цього мільйонер пропонує зайнятися передачею викупу негідникам, які викрали його дружину. До справи підключається старий приятель Лебовські – Волтер Собчак, ветеран В'єтнаму і ревний іудей. З кожною хвилиною події набувають все більш абсурдного повороту. Діалоги вражають бадьорістю – слово fuck у фільмі вжито 281 раз. Багато реплік персонажів стали крилатими фразами.
