Фільм розповідає про групу британських пенсіонерів, які вирішили «піти на відпочинок» у менш витратну та більш екзотичну Індію. Спокусившись рекламою про заново відновлений готель «Меріґолд» і в передчутті життя повного задоволень, вони прибувають на місце. Але виявляється, що готель, лише нагадує бліду тінь своєї колишньої величі. Але, незважаючи на те, що все довколо далеке від тієї розкоші, яку вони собі уявляли, спільні пригоди безповоротно змінюють їх, і вони усвідомлюють, що можна почати жити заново і знайти любов, якщо відпустити минуле.
