Бен Карсон бачив і краще. Вже минув майже рік з тих пір, як неврівноваженого детектива усунули від роботи в Поліцейському управлінні Нью-Йорка за вбивство іншого співробітника спецслужби. Нещасний випадок не лише коштував йому роботи, але і збудив в ньому тягу до алкоголю і агресивність, через що дружина і діти віддалилися від нього, а сам він знайшов притулок на дивані в квартирі своєї сестри в Куїнс. Втративши надію повернутися до нормального життя і возз'єднатися з сім'єю, Карсон наймається на роботу нічним сторожем вигорілих руїн універмагу “Mayflower”. Те, що колись було символом процвітання і розкоші, тепер повільно руйнується в темряві, як загниваючий корабель-примара, розорений гігантською пожежею, що поглинула безліч безневинних життів. Коли Карсон обходить дозором свої володіння, обвуглені розвалини універмагу, він починає помічати щось зловісне в декоративних дзеркалах...
