Сюжет по-соціалістичному невигадливий – друзі Салівон Іванович Часник і Кіндрат Галушка – голови колгоспів “Смерть капіталізму” і “Тихе життя”, які кожен по-різному ведуть діяльність у своїх сталінських колгоспах, прагнучи поліпшити показники надоїв і врожаю – за сюжетом це класична совкова сталінська “боротьба кращого з хорошим“, приблизно як у фільмі “Кубанські козаки”. Але в нашому дослідженні кіно цікаве дещо іншим. “У степах України” – фільм сталінських років, завдяки якому був зформований і зацементований сталінський образ “дружнього х..хла” – товстого і дурного селянина зі смішним прізвищем, цілковито аполітичного любителя вареників, з відсутнім характером і поглядами.Переважно такі громадяни, пережили сталінські репресії і депортації, і багато в чому визначали обличчя України після Голодомору і репресій. У совкових фільмах ніхто не розповідав, куди ж раптом зникли чесні, гарні, активні та небайдужі українці – вони давно загинули від голоду, були страчені або депортовані. Замість цього показували тих, хто вижив – видаючи цю страшну картину спустошених репресіями земель за нормальне суспільство.
Пізніше такі сталінські образи “жирних дурних х..хлів” використовувалися і в інших радянських фільмах, а також у сучасних пропагандистських стрічках, на кшталт “Брат-2”. Якщо ви почитаєте коментарі ватників на різних сайтах і форумах – то дізнаєтесь, що їхнє уявлення про Україну та українців ґрунтується на таких сталінських фільмах.
