Мандрівник (Тьюліс) випадково потрапляє на загадковий острів, де двоє вчених-генетиків проводять експерименти, створюючи гібриди людини з тваринами. Через деякий час мутанти захоплюють зброю і вчиняють заколот проти свої творців… Одна з найслабших екранізацій творів Веллса. На жаль, Брандо цього разу не продемонстрував нічого видатного, хоча й не заслужив “Золоту малину” за найгіршу роль другого плану, якою його відзначили. Краще було віддати цю нагороду Кілмеру, який виглядає у картині жахливо, особливо коли починає пародіювати Брандо. До речі, на зйомках актори сварилися, і Марлон навіть порадив молодшому колезі не плутати свій талант з розміром гаманця (Вела вважали великою зіркою після “Бетмена назавжди”, але усі його наступні фільми провалилися, в тому числі цей). Як не дивно, найбільше запам’ятовується епізодичний персонаж Дакаскоса.
Сюжет

However, the story of Breza and Silvija only marks the beginning of the plot whose main character is actually Düplin, an eccentric outsider, a deaf-and-dumb tramp or, as Breza's mother, the old Popovka, a farm owner and a fortune-teller also referred to as Strina, called him "a lad from a citrus producing country".
