Середина 19-го століття. Німа Ада разом з маленькою дочкою і улюбленим піаніно покидає рідну Шотландію і переїздить на інший кінець світу, до Нової Зеландії, де її чекає майбутній чоловік Стюарт. Він відмовляється доставити в будинок піаніно, яке залишається кинутим на березі. Ада, не говоряча з шести років, все ж таки показує чоловіку всю глибину свого гніву.
