Sandu Patrascu is an ordinary Romanian citizen, living in a comfortable apartment in Bucharest. He has a good job (in the vehicle registration business), a wife (no-nonsense Olga), a teenage son (computer-obsessed Matei) and a (trained) dog. On the whole, he feels good about himself. One day though, he gets upset by an incident he is the witness of: a violent quarrel taking place on the other side of a female neighbor's door. Worse, Vali, another neighbor, leaves the apartment while Sandu stands in the staircase listening. Even worse, Laura, the young woman he has heard shouting is found murdered. What will Patrascu do under such circumstances ?

Недалеко від берега літній абхазець зауважує невеликий острівець і вирішує сховатися там разом з онукою від метушливого світу, в якому війна - єдиний спосіб залагоджувати конфлікти. Героя драми «Кукурудзяний острів» не бентежить, що на обраній ним землі нічого крім землі немає. Принісши все необхідне з собою, чоловік відразу ж починає займатися облагороджуванням території. Використовуючи нехитрі інструменти, він будує невеликий будиночок, в якому можуть поміститися двоє людей. Закінчивши зводити стіни і встановлювати дах, герой приймається за навколишнє землю, перетворюючи її в міні-поле для кукурудзи. За допомогою працьовитою внучки він садить кукурудзяні зерна, вже зараз уявляючи, наскільки багатим буде урожай. Але дочекатися цього моменту старому буде непросто, особливо після того, як він вкриє в будинку пораненого хлопця, який втік від військового патруля.

Loonies is a touching comedy about five psychiatric patients who are forced to exchange their familiar surroundings for an old-fashioned, impersonal institution. Partly because of the severe regime of a dreadful nurse, the five decide to escape from their new home and go back to the old one under their own steam. After a drastic confrontation with the 'normal' outside world that results in fighting and panic, the group breaks up. Each of the five patients realise their dreams individually, but ultimately they decide to choose for each other and the familiarity of their own place. Loonies is a film with light-hearted and cheeky humour that, in a moving way, takes us into the pleasantly disturbed world of five somewhat romanticised psychiatric patients.
