Одного разу юрист Стівен Арден приходить на прийом до свого друга психіатра Тоні Флегга з проханням вивести його із запою, пов’язаного з його майбутнім одруженням на популярній радіозірці Аманді Купер, яка виявилася вельми непередбачуваною особою. Волею долі Аманда опиняється в кабінеті Тоні і, випадково вмикнувши фонограф, чує нелестну думку лікаря про себе.Дівчина вирішує дошкулити лікареві за його слова, але виходить зовсім навпаки — вона закохується в Тоні. Психіатр, бажаючи допомогти другу повернути любов, гіпнотизує Аманду, заклавши в неї ненависть до себе, додавши в кінці сеансу слова: «ненавиджу і застрелю, як скаженого пса». Аманда, під дією гіпнозу, влаштувала справжнє сафарі під час заміської прогулянки. Крихітна дівчина ледве не вбила Тоні.
