На деяку мить здається, що цей непевний об’єкт тотального бажання вже десь поруч. З’ясовується, що в “Тувалу” в умовинах повної антисанітарії біля занедбаного басейну, також можна бути щасливими. Але не така наша Чулпан – щастя, що поруч, їй не потрібне. Вона напружує всю свою акторську майстерність задля того, аби глядач зрозумів, що її героїня заслуговує на боротьбу і перемогу. Чулпан виразно закочує оченята, морщить чарівне личко і активно жестикулює. Розмовляти – не розмовляє, бо тексту в неї небагацько, власне, як і в решти з персонажів. Вони розуміють одне одного без слів у своїй спільній справі “дурнебайдикування”. Але про що йдеться у стрічці, розтлумачити не так уже й просто. Тим, хто бажає зрозуміти драматургійний розвиток подій у фільмі, я б рекомендувала розпочати з вивчення “норм безпеки поводження на воді”. Змісту (сенсу) в цих правилах не більше, ніж у картині, однак у ній також йдеться про водні забавки.Ірина Побєдоносцева

Kazakhstan, early 1961. Daniel Pokrovsky, a medical officer, currently works for the first Soviet cosmonauts' troop. There Daniel, already married, finds himself in an incredibly complicated and yet tender relationship with a young girl, called Vera. Later Daniel goes back to Moscow where is in charge of the health of the future cosmonauts. He tries not to be just a doctor for the cadets, but also their friend. He can't agree with the fact that these young men could have to sacrifice their lives for the country. His wife Nina feels the same: she doesn't accept him participating in a project that could put human lives at risk, therefore she keeps asking Daniel to leave his job. Daniel decides to leave his wife. Then one of the cadets dies and the medical officer ends up breaking down. This doesn't stop him from leaving for Kazakhstan in order to prepare the launch of the first man into space. Nina follows him to Kazakhstan, where she learns about his involvement with Vera; however she decides not to leave Daniel alone, understanding how ill he is. Giving up attempts to handle the stress, Daniel escapes the day before the launch, but dies on his getaway. Nina takes Vera with her to Moscow, accommodating the girl in her apartment. Time goes by and both women keep living together: none of them will ever get married again, being both still in love with Daniel.

After graduating from high school 19 year old Göran goes to his uncle Anders's farm in the countryside for recreation. It's summer and a lot of work to do at the farm, but he, the city student, isn't accustomed to that. He falls in love with 17 year old Kerstin, and suddenly he is very engaged in country life. Göran is a foreigner, but he quickly blends in with the village youth. They are in a bitter conflict with the vicar, who condemns all their activities as immoral. When the vicar forbids the youth to use the school for their meetings anymore, Anders gives them an old barn, which they start renovating. Kerstin has a strict mother, who in vain forbids her to take part in the youth activities. She goes there with Göran. She is a bit shy, but the romance between them develops step by step, until it is fulfilled a summer night, when they swim naked in a lake. Despite all efforts of Kerstin's parents and the vicar, they cannot stop Kerstin and Göran from meeting each other also when autumn has arrived. When a road accident suddenly ends Kerstin's life, Göran is accused by the vicar for being a seducer that had led Kerstin astray.
