Пробуджений цим листом до життя, він пише чудову статтю, даючи в ній відповідь на це питання. Ця подія змінює на краще життя кількох людей. Фільм заснований на реальній пригоді, що мала місце у 1897 році, коли восьмирічна дівчинка Вірджинія вирішила розставити всі крапки над «i» та надіслала відповідного листа до редакції «New York Sun». Вона отримала відповідь: "Так, Вірджинія, Санта Клаус існує. Його існування так само реально, як існування любові, великодушності та відданості, що наповнюють твоє життя вищою красою та радістю.
