Ezio is a screenwriter scared by happy endings, who earns his living thanks to an invention of his father. He is going through a creative crisis, until he has a car crash with Anna, who invites him to dinner. Once there, the stories of several characters get interwoven, triggered by the decision of the 16 year-old Filippo, Anna's son, to get married. Dinner's attendees become the characters of Ezio's new screenplay, but they will try to interfere with his work.

Then, late one night, while binging on burgers, he meets Iris, 25, a waitress, free spirit, poet and singer who sleeps with a new man nearly every night. Romeo falls for her, and, better, he puts her poems to music. They form an act. He moves in with her and pays all the bills. She insists it's business, with no romance. What will happen when an important producer hears them perform?

Фільм створено на основі першого роману італійського письменника Паоло Джордано, опублікованого у січні 2008 року, який відразу став бестселером в Італії і був перекладений понад 30-ма мовами, в т.ч. українською у видавництві Старого Лева, в 2016 р.«Прості числа діляться тільки на одиницю і самі на себе. Кожне з них посідає своє місце у безконечному шерезі натуральних чисел, затиснуте, як і всі числа, поміж двома іншими, але на крок далі, ніж решта. Ці числа — непевні й самотні, і саме тому Матія вважав їх достоту дивовижними. Іноді він думав, що в тому шерезі вони опинилися випадково, от просто потрапили там у пастку, нанизані разом, немов коралинки у намисті» - пише Паоло Джордано. Два простих числа, які розділяє тільки одне парне число, вважаються близнюками. - «Загалом серед математиків побутує переконання, що, просуваючись уперед, рано чи пізно неодмінно натрапиш на наступну пару простих чисел, хоч ніхто не може завчасу сказати, де вони, аж доки їх не знайде.
