Варшава, 30-ті роки XX-го століття. Генрік Квінто (Ян Махульскі) виходить з в'язниці. Колишній партнер, банкір Крамер (Леонард Пєтрашак), який зрадив його, пропонує йому відшкодування. Квінто відвідує дружину покійного друга, Рихліньского - Марту (Ева Шикульска). Він дізнається, що до його самогубства, спричинився власне Крамер. Розлючений Квінто обмірковує план помсти. Контактує з гангстерами Моксом (Яцек Хмєльнік) і Нотою (Кшиштоф Кєршновскі), до співпраці залучають також Данця (Вітольд Пиркош) - фахівця у галузі банківських систем сигналізації.
Сюжет
Варшава, 30-ті роки XX-го століття. Генрік Квінто (Ян Махульскі) виходить з в'язниці. Колишній партнер, банкір Крамер (Леонард Пєтрашак), який зрадив його, пропонує йому відшкодування. За часів наполеонівських воєн молодий офіцер знаходить рукопис, що стосується історії його дідуся, капітана охорони Альвана Ворд. Альван, людина честі шукає коротку дорогу через Сієрра Морена. У готелі він зустрічає двох східних принцес. Вони ставляться до нього, як до кузена, і намагаються всіляко його спокусити. Потім він прокидається під шибеницею, на якій висять два мерці, та перестає відрізняти де правда, а де фантазія... За однойменним сатиричним романом Яна Потоцького.

The end of the 70s of the last century. A team of surveyors goes to a small provincial town. Magister ( Jan Nowicki ) and the experts accompanying him plan to build a new road in the vicinity. The geodesists' projects arouse the indignation of one of the local farmers, Biernacki ( Wiesław Gołas ). The envisaged route is to run through the land belonging to it. To save his patrimony, Biernacki is ready to pay a bribe. The dispute between the host and the surveyors is cruelly resolved in front of the party dignitaries participating in the nearby banquet. Jerzy Gruza's painting is a sharp satire of manners, criticizing social relations from the end of the Gierek era.

Стрічка є продовженням фільму Анджея Мунка "Косооке щастя / Zezowate szczęście". У 1960 році головний герой Ян Піщик саме вийшов з в'язниці і пішов у кінотеатр на фільм, який знято по його біографії. Стрічка йому не сподобалася, бо він вважає, що його зображено боягузом і зробили з нього посміховисько. Далі показують передісторію, як він потрапив у в'язницю і після смерті Сталіна вийшов на свободу. Але звичайний громадянин Піщик у комуністичній Польщі ніяк не може знайти свого місця в житті, тому завжди потрапляє під чужий вплив і зрештою потрапляє туди, де як він вважав, йому було найкраще - у в'язницю.
