Друга половина XVI сторіччя. Під час одного з турнірів від шаблі Оґлу-хана, турецького аґи, загинув угорський дворянин Ґаспар Бабочаї. Його син Ласло присягається помститися за батька і висилає аґі виклик. Поєдинок повинен відбутися через рік.
