Кожну зиму, протягом кількох тисячоліть, в крижаних пустелях Антарктики - найнегостиннійшій частині Землі - відбувається найдивовижніша мандрівка. Тисячі імператорських пінгвінів залишають надійну глибочинь океану, виходять на холодну землю та розпочинають свою тривалу подорож в глиб настільки негостинного та холодного континента, що там немає жодної форми життя. Але саме туди йдуть ланцюжком, один за одним імператорські пінгвіни. Незважаючи на засліплюючі снігові заметілі, вони рішуче та вперто прямують туди, де мають дати життя потомству та забезпечити виживання виду.
