He meets his old friends, platoon leader Larsson and the music loving captain 'Beethoven'. Jonsson and his comrades doesn't take it very serious - but they have a jolly good time. A female journalist follows the exercise to write an article, and gets interested in him. Plot by Mattias Thuresson.

За мотивами однойменного твору Редьярда Кіплінґа.Командир 1-го батальйону Ратлендширського полку, полковник Брансвік мав надійного помічника, капітана Пінденні, і трьох здібних, але не завжди надійних рядових, Акройда, Маллоя та Сайкса, які протягом вісімнадцяти років були «королівськими льодяниками"; втікали, щоб випити, побитися та пограти в азартні ігри, коли могли. Всупереч їхнім бажанням, один з них мусив бути підвищений до сержанта, щоб розлучити їх. Вибір впав на Акройда. Після повідомлення про заворушення в Мірзабаді, Брансвік і його батальйон відкликано та підпорядковано суперникові полковнику Ґроту з 28-го гусарського полку та його офіційному ад’ютанту майору Мерсеру.
Сайкс і Маллой стають частиною невеличкого загону, що під командуванням Мерсера та Пінденні вирушає до покинутого форту в Імарі, в якості приманки для повстанців.
