Дія фільму відбувається в XIX столітті в Пуерто-Ріко. Контрабандист на прізвисько Хуан Диявол закохується в дівчину Айме, але Айме збирається виходити заміж за сина багатого дворянина Ренато. Хуан Диявол спокушає Айме і вона стає його коханкою. Під час весілля Ренато звинувачує наречену в зраді, але Айме спритно переводить підозру на свою сестру, послушницю монастиря Моніку. Щоб врятувати сім'ю від голоду і позбавити від приниження Ренато, якого вона давно кохає, Моніка погоджується на фіктивний шлюб із Хуаном. Заплутаний сюжет романтичної історії дуже непередбачуваний, що робить картину особливо захопливою.
Сюжет
