The circle of life. A child sits alone on a playground merry-go-round. All around are images of life: a woman reclining, a couple standing. These images revolve as accordion music fills the air. Circular images - the rim of a coffee cup, the merry-go-round, a record - and couples turning in dance suggest the pleasures and connectedness of life. However, the film also returns to a solitary man alone in a flat. Some staircases are circular and lead to meetings between men and women. The staircase outside his flat is angular. Is he alone and outside the circle?

In the stillness, where the dimming lights of the city battle with the coming of the day, a mighty mechanical roar breaks the silence. Without a doubt, it is the unmistakable and distinct sound of a V-12 engine that belongs to a Ferrari 275GTB, revving and shifting up gears as it enters furiously the tunnel at Porte Dauphine. In the same fashion, as it exits up on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, flat out, the driver aims for the Place de la Concorde heading for the Palais Garnier, in a mad dash down-shifting inside the heart of the city. In squealing tyres, the mighty noise is scattering pigeons and petrified pedestrians across the way, while the car enters narrow, slippery cobbled roads with early morning drivers. Now, it is clear enough that this heart-pounding, nerve-wracking ride continues its course towards the Place Pigalle. With the final destination at the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur and with a last blind hairpin remaining that could turn one's hair grey, the intrepid driver reaches the end of this high-adrenaline ride. Who will be waiting for him at the finish line?

After his father calls in medical help, Gerald continues to keep making these and other unusual sounds as the doctor doesn't know what to do. And later, when Gerald's father sends him to school hoping that being around other children speaking and having teachers who can teach him will make him speak properly, Gerald still can only make these sounds. Is there any hope for Gerald or his exasperated parents?

There are two men hanging on a pole representing traffic lights. One opens his jacket and reveals a red shirt. Then he closes his jacket, so the other man can reveal his green shirt. He puts his coat and briefcase in a locker where a woman is hanging on the locker door working as his coat hanger and briefcase holder. He takes an elevator ride up, using a human counterweight. There, he begins his work as a doormat. His boss shows up, scrapes his feet on his back and enters his office. He continues to lay there in front of an office door.
